Our Favorite S’More-Worthy Summer Movies

Here at XO Marshmallow, it’s #HotSmoreSummer and we’re celebrating with a line-up of our favorite s’more-worthy movies. From “You’re Killing me, Smalls!” to “I’ll ship you brats off to Switzerland!” We reflect on why we love these campfire classics. And of course, no camping (or glamping) trip would be complete without marshmallows but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered there too.

Here are our Top S’Mores-Worthy Summer Movies:

#1. Troop Beverly Hills

Troop Beverly Hills (1989) centers around Well-to-do Philis Neflar and her daughter’s girl scout troop. The troop is made up of mismatched, affluent daughters of diplomats, movie stars, and even a romance novelist. Together, they navigate the world of cookie sales, camping, and out-thwarting the leader of a rival troop.

Why We Love It - When the troop ditches the great outdoors for the Beverly Hills Hotel, I knew I found my people. The modern trend of glamping was practically invented in this movie, and we appreciate these trailblazers for their contribution to our cookie addiction.

We recommend enjoying this nostalgic flick with Oh Dough You Didn’t Cookie Dough Cups --- I was serious about our cookie addiction, and this marshmallow + edible cookie dough dipped in chocolate, takes your favorite treat and adds a little something extra. Troop BH would approve.

#2. The Parent Trap

In this 1998 remake, Lindsay Lohan plays twins who were separated at birth. The girls meet by chance at summer camp, and conspire to switch places in hopes of reconciling their divorced parents.

Why We Love It - Kids from the ‘90s will remember the equally iconic Meredith Baxter, a gold-digging but fabulously dressed obstacle that stands in the way of the twins’ plans. Also, the secret handshake? I remember perfecting that dance move with my BFF that summer. Bonus: give this gem a re-watch, then compare it to the 1961 original. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

We recommend Cookies and Cream Marshmallows in honor of the twins’ favorite snack, Oreo’s dipped in peanut butter.

#3. The Sandlot

This Sandlot (1993) is all about friends...and baseball. New kid Scottie Smalls moves into the neighborhood and quickly befriends a group who play ball at the sandlot. When his stepfather’s famed baseball sails over the fence, the group must band together to retrieve it.

Why We Love It - “First, you take the graham. You stick the chocolate on the graham. Then, you roast the mallow. When the mallow's flaming, you stick it on the chocolate. Then you cover it with the other end. Then, you scarf. Kind of messy, but good. Try some.” - The Sandlot (1993) -- Need we say more?!

We recommend a S’Mores Kit for 2 so you can replay the OG s’more scene on repeat. Then scarf.

#4. Heavy Weights

Heavy Weights (1995) is about a weight loss camp known for its “fun-first focus” that is overtaken by an overly zealous fitness entrepreneur (played by Ben Stiller). The campers must find a way to take back their summer and...their snacks.

Why We Love It - There is a scene where the campers get totally marshmallow wasted and binge on their favorite junk food. I am not saying it’s the BEST idea, but it definitely hit home when I used to watch this movie every summer on the Disney channel. Also, did anyone else want to jump off “the blob”? No? Just me? Ok...

We recommend Party Animal OMG -- just make sure you stash it somewhere safe, just like the campers in the movie.

#5. Moonrise Kingdom

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore – and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in every which way.

Why We Love It - Quirky and romantic, we really love the classic camping setting and of course, the talented actors who bring Wed Anderson’s vision to life. There is a sweet set of letters the star-crossed penpals share, making me miss the good ole days of summer crushes.

We recommend Passionfruit Marshmallows -- these seasonal marshmallows are bright, unique, and have Wes Anderson written all over them.

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime (Premium) - Showtime or SlingTV

It was so fun to re-watch these (mostly) 1990’s films! I remember a few years back, XO Marshmallow camped outside Wrigley Field during a special viewing of The Sandlot and made baseball-inspired s’mores for the crowd. This summer, one of our brides even hosted a Troop Beverly Hills themed bridal shower! Tell us, how is your #HotSmoreSummer going?
